PRESIDENT (elected by Chapter members)

Term: 2 years

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Preside over Board and annual meetings.
  • Contribute information for the newsletter as requested by the Communications committee.
  • Serve as representative of ASTD National and attends leadership conferences.
  • Communicate with Chapter Services Representative on a quarterly basis.
  • Encourage leadership development of Board and Chapter members through succession planning, committee appointments and networking.
  • Serve as ex-officio member of all committees.
  • Prepare meeting agenda one week prior to Board meeting. Sends agenda to Secretary for distribution and communicates agenda at Board meetings.
  • Appoint ad hoc committee chairs as required.
  • Prepares for Chapter Awards Program in three areas of chapter management: structure, planning and review, and operations management.
  • Attend chapter meetings and functions to encourage member interaction.
  • Ensure that Board and Chapter activities are reviewed with respect to the chapter vision and strategic plan.
  • Oversee fiscal financial responsibility.
  • Create links with other professional and community organizations.

Time and personal demands required:

  • Average of 2 to 4 hours per week (includes travel time)
  • Time required for attendance at monthly Board and other appropriate meetings
  • Support and resources needed: telephone, computer, copier, fax
  • Willingness to travel

VICE PRESIDENT (elected by Chapter members)

Term: 2 years

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Assist President with day-to-day operations of Chapter management.
  • Contribute ideas for general chapter development to the Chapter board.
  • Select specific areas of focus for general chapter development, as required.
  • Preside over meetings in the absence of the president.
  • Promote and oversee committee activities on behalf of the president and executive board.
  • Provide leadership and direction for board members.
  • Participate in chapter programs and functions.

Time and personal demands required:

  • Average of 2 to 4 hours per week (includes travel time)
  • Time required for attendance at monthly Board and other appropriate meetings
  • Support and resources needed: telephone, computer, copier, fax
  • Willingness to travel

TREASURER (elected by Chapter members)

Term: 2 years

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Maintain and control expenses and revenues based on the budget.
  • Process all invoices and deposits in a timely manner.
  • Review cash flow and recommend asset transfers.
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Tender Treasurer’s report at board meetings.
  • Issue federal tax reports as applicable.
  • Act as one of two who can approve and sign checks. The President is the other one who can sign checks.
  • Coordinate the Annual budget process.
  • Communicate budget to membership at the Annual meeting.
  • Participate in chapter programs and functions.

Time and personal demands required:

  • Average of 2 hours per month to maintain accurate records
  • Time required for attendance at monthly Board and other appropriate meetings
  • Support and resources needed: telephone, computer, copier, fax
  • Access to clerical help is preferable

SECRETARY (elected by Chapter members)

Term: 2 years

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Write and disseminate minutes from Chapter and Board meetings (not to include committee meetings).
  • Convene Officers and Directors meetings.
  • Manage and distribute general Board correspondence and mailings.
  • Maintain and update Chapter By-Laws and Chapter Operations Manual as needed.
  • Assist the President and Vice President with record keeping and maintenance of Chapter archives.
  • Distribute Board meeting agenda prior to meetings.
  • Prepare Chapter annual report.
  • Participate in chapter programs and functions.

Time and personal demands required:

  • Average of 2 hours per week
  • Time required for attendance at monthly Board and other appropriate meetings
  • Support and resources needed: telephone, computer, copier, fax

MEMBER-AT-LARGE (elected by Chapter members)

Term: 1 year

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Represent members and their issues/concerns at Board of Director’s meetings.
  • Serve on Chapter Membership Committee.
  • Serve as liaison with Communication Committee.
  • Coordinate Board member recognition at Annual meeting.
  • Participate in Chapter programs and functions.

Time and personal demands required:

  • Average of 2 to 4 hours per month
  • Time required for attendance at monthly Board and other appropriate meetings
  • Support and resources needed: telephone, computer, copier, fax
